Continuing our series to get to know the people behind the wonderful products on ideyna, say hello to Lindsey Matharu, the lovely crafter behind My Mummy and Me.
Lindsey is from Liverpool in England and has been a Dubai resident for the last 12 years. A former air hostess with Emirates and now a full time mom and crafter, we love catching up with Lindsey because we know there’s always laughter to be shared when she’s around.
Lindsey is bright, funny and super sweet and as we found out, has always had a penchant for crafting,
I have tried many different arts and crafts over the years including painting acrylic on canvas and glass painting. Last year I invested in a sewing machine after taking a lesson on how to use them and I haven’t stopped since.
With her new found skills, Lindsey soon discovered that she loved making totes,
I have tried making quilts, a car tidy but the most enjoyable item I made was a large tote bag to carry my sewing machine.
That’s when she hit upon her brand, My Mummy and Me.
I came up with ‘My Mummy and Me’ because every little girl likes to dress up like mummy and use mummy’s things. I make large sized tote bags paired with identical mini sized ones – to match for mother and child as I saw how much my daughter enjoyed playing with mine. My daughter uses her little tote to carry her dolly.
Lindsey uses quirky and bright fabrics for her totes and embellishes them with buttons and bows.
I enjoy piecing the totes together, choosing the colours and fabric, selecting the embellishments and then seeing them come together in the finished piece. I find it very relaxing to sew and it calms me after a busy day looking after my 17 month old daughter.
For busy new mums who want to craft or sew, Lindsey says,
I know it’s hard to find the time with a baby but I would advise new mums to try and take advantage of the time when your baby is napping. It’s the perfect time to keep your crafting material ready to go. Once your baby is in bed and after all is done around the house, you can start to sew everything together (and maybe a few vinos might help to get the creative juices flowing…:p)
My biggest regret is not finding my passion for crafting when I was pregnant and with so much time on my hands…I would suggest to any newly pregnant mums to give it a go…there are so many crafting options to choose from.
Being a mom to her beautiful little daughter remains her inspiration and Lindsey has also started making nappy packs,
The nappy pack idea came to me because I realized there was no need to carry everything all the time, just the basics. I promise it will make being out and about with your little one so much easier. My next creation will be similar to the nappy pack but will be sectioned on one side to hold small metal toy cars and the other side will open to reveal a road for the cars…watch this space!!
We can’t wait.
Find Lindsey’s delightful creations – from her maxi and mini totes, to her nappy packs and handmade cards in her ideyna shop, My Mummy and Me.
