Ok look, it’s hot. We can’t say it enough. In fact it’s hotter than last year. And last year we thought this is it. Every darn summer it feels like the the temperature goes a notch up and here we are roasting toasting like a good ol’ Tandoori Nan. But ladies, gents (and very eager children) there’s an upside to this situation. Nothing, and we mean nothing is better than ice cream on hot hot Dubai day. There are one too many flavours for these endless sultry days.
At the ideyna HQ, we had a brilliant flash of genius. And we’ve been dripping ice cream everywhere we go.
Are you ready? All you need is some bright and colourful Origami paper (Not even. Heck, we even used the cover of The New Yorker and gift wrapping paper) and your lovely hands. But the most important bit, pay attention now, your favouritest yummiest Ice Cream. flavour. Available at a freezer near you.
Let’s get started shall we? This is what you’ll need:
- Origami Paper (Or colourful magazine covers/gift wrapping paper)
- Wafer Cones (We found ours at our local Choirthram’s)
- A pair of scissors
- Washi Tape (Regular tape will do too. So don’t stress if you don’t have washi. We’re just obsessed)
- Endless supply of your favourite ice cream (Slurrp!)
This is a great one to get the kids involved in, btw.
First up simply lay out your origami paper and measure eight inches from one corner. Then draw a curved line that meets the other edge (also measured at eight inches). You can also use a compass to get a more precise curve. As long as you get a quarter of a circle drawn around the corner of the paper, you’re gold.
Cut this out carefully. Mind your fingers.
You can use this guy as a sample to trace out more. Don’t waste paper and use the other corner to cut another one out.
Next step, easy as pie. Wrap up your cut out papers around the point of an ice cream cone. When the two ends meet, simply tape it up Washi style or regular.
And there you have it, the most colourful sleeves for your ice cream cones, perfect for hot hot days. And kids birthday parties. Or evening soirees. Or lazy afternoons. Yup, pretty much any excuse you can think of .
Now scoop up your favourite flavour and get to work. Enough said!
Just a tip: Don’t leave your ice cream out too long like we did. We were lucky to have some colourful sleeves that didn’t get the cones soggy 😉
