Artist Statement

For the last two years I have been lucky enough to travel to many places around the world, having a truly amazing time, but staying in Myanmar was certainly the most incredible experience. I met Zaw Shane a 16 year old monk in Mandalay who wanted to share with me his way of life. I stayed 2 weeks in his monastery, where 3000 young monks are living. Every morning he would to wake me up at 4.30 am and we would sit and meditate, in absolute tranquility as the sun rose from beyond the horizon.
There has always been something about photography that has captured my interest with its power to stop time. This picture represents exactly this notion. Every morning Zaw Shane and myself stopped time.
